What does an ADHD Coaching session look like?
Each session begins by setting an agenda for the session. This is very important as it keeps us on topic and on track (who us? Go off down a rabbit hole?) and allows you to really dig deeper into the area of your goals that you want to improve.
Anyone with a list of areas to work on will need to book several sessions as we cannot coach effectively by trying to cover more than one area per session (within reason, there will always be some exceptions to this).
An agenda for each session also allows you to measure how you are going and how we go during the coaching session. After each session it’s important to reflect and ask, “did we get to where you wanted today”. “What does success for this goal look like?” “What did I learn today?”
Measuring Success
-
At the end of the session at around the 50-minute mark we will start to wrap up and see how far you got against the agenda. We will reflect on what needs to be carried over to another session and whether another session is appropriate.
-
Coaching is very rarely a quick fix. If anyone tells you otherwise you are right to be suspicious.
-
Allow for at least 6 sessions to see how you are progressing.
-
Be prepared to do some work and self-reflection. There are no short cuts or hacks (sorry TikTok) but the best part of ADHD coaching is that in the hands of an experienced coach you can establish new strategies that work with your strengths and your unique blend of ADHD that will make the process of change far less daunting.
If you think you may prefer something different you can always try a Coaching Group which is a fun way to learn about how to work with your ADHD while meeting others.
